Multi-Touch Interaction Experiments Video

Multi-Touch

There’s an awesome video of the Multi-Touch Interaction Experiments in Jefferson Y. Han’s site. Also a discussion in Digg going on if this is same as Apple’s patiented touch screen that Engadget’s article Apple’s patented the Tablet Mac (part II) was talking about?

This is what they’ll be doing next:

We’ll be working with other, more interesting form factors (both larger and smaller). Wouldn’t it also be nice to identify which finger is associated with each contact?

Nepalese blogs are victims or careless?

A popular Nepalese blog site blog.com.np has been offline for last few days and I’d previously written about it in my post blogs.com.np Hacked?. Today another blog site Nepalblogs.com seems to have similar problem. From what I see it looks like their entire content has been wipped off but the owners still have access to the site, since they have one post saying We have been hacked! We will come back soon. There are several comments to this post and one that I toatlly agree with goes like this.

blog.com.np Hacked?

Today when I tried to check United We Blog! for a Democratic Nepal I saw the default blue WordPress theme with some MySQL error. My first thought were, Oh… they’re upgrading to wordpress 2.0.1 like me. But I was wrong. After a while when I tried the site again they mentioned they’ve technical problem and meanwhile recommend you to visit NepalBlogs.com . I got interested on what was happening to this site because the authors of this blog have done a wonderful job of bringing the real situation in Nepal uncensored. This is what I found.

WordPress 2.0.1 Upgrade

I’ve updated this blog to wordpress 2.0.1. It took me around 5 minutes (no errors). All the Plugins work without any problem. There’s a very detailed Upgrade instruction in wordpress site. I like the new look of the admin interface 🙂

They’ve fixed 114 bugs in this new release and here is the summary of it:

You can now specify an upload directory, and whether to use date-based storage or not.
Caching has been fixed under certain PHP enviroments.
Permalinks have been fixed for weird enviroments as well.
    XML-RPC uploading works.
Compatibility with older versions of PHP.
    Several WYSIWYG fixes and cleanups.
Imports now use much less memory.
Now works with MySQL 5.0 in strict mode.

HowTo Install WordPress MultiUser Edition

What is WordPress MU?

WordPress MU is multi-user version of the famous WordPress blogging application. It is ideal for people wanting to offer a hosted version of WordPress, but due to its complexity installation and maintainance is not supported in the same manner WordPress is. (You cannot get support on the WordPress support forums.)”

WordPress Multi-User Edition has a pretty active forum but I couldn’t find any installation guide. This is how I installed WordPress MU and I’m presenting a step-by-step installation procedure with screenshots.

Security issues and Bugs in IE 7

I had done a half an hour test of IE 7 Beta and posted the screenshots (including the crash) in my previous post IE7 Beta Screenshots. Now the newsgroups, blogs and some security researchers are reporting bugs and security issues with IE 7.

ZDNet reports, IE 7 bugs abound

“People didn’t lose any time in finding bugs in the latest preview release of Internet Explorer 7.”

Security-Protocols have this advisory, Internet Explorer 7.0 Beta 2 urlmon.dll DoS

“So, I figured I would give it a quick look at and I just happened to find something within the first 15 minutes into testing. Weird huh?”

IE Blog have a post, Security issue in IE7?

“This bug had already been found during our code review and analysis that is a mandatory part of our development process; it was scheduled to be fixed before our next public release.”

We should understand that this is a beta release and not secure, so avoid using it for daily browsing.

IE 7 Beta screenshots

IE7 Quick Tabs

I came back to office after 4 days Chinese New Year holiday and first thing I read was the news about IE 7 Beta release for public. I downloaded and installed it, not to replace firefox but just for test. I’ve captured the screenshots starting from my installation. If you want to test it for yourself you can download it from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Site. It’s still Beta and is not stable. Within my half an hour use it crashed twice.

This is what I found from my half an hour test:

    Looks nice with clean interface
    Built in tabbed browsing
    Built in Phishing filter
Easy to clean up your browsing history
    Printing Enhancement
    Easy to subscribe to RSS

Yoga for fitness and more

Bikram

I’ve never been consistent with my physical exercise. I know very well that I need to keep myself fit but I’ve been unable to follow a regular exercise routine (not strong enough will power, I guess…). I’m sure all of us understand the importance of keeping our body fit for it’s the only vehicle that carries us. Without a sound body we’ll be limited in many ways and it’s in our best interest to maintain and keep it fit. I joined the gym worked out for around 8 months and quit. I started jogging, 3 to 4 times a week but sometimes there’s a gap of more than 3 to 4 months. I go swimming and hiking sometimes but still think my body is not having the minimum required exercise and this time I’ve decided to try something new. I wanted to try Yoga.
