I had this happen to me last September a seller called Dozer 2 was selling Norton Anti-virus software being unemployed I thought the price was good ( too good ) anyway clicked on the order got an e-mail saying item had been dispatched.
Like so many the item never arrived so I went into seller profile and was shocked that this seller had not just hit one or two people but had knocked hundreds for cash and it was not Just Norton, PS3's Blackberry's Blu-ray
Managed to get a full refund but the seller was still allowed to steal up till Xmas Eve.

Hi Matt, I've no idea if the person ever got caught. Amazon just refunded the money but never told me what happened to the scammer.

hello,

i am doing a school assignment on scams, and that. I was just wondering if the person ever got caught for what he did, and do you know what punishment he got? As this is really bad that he managed to scam so many people and a massive company like Amazon.

Many thanks

Hi Stephen, sorry to hear that you too were caught up in the same mess. I totally agree with you that Amazon's A-to-Z works well on the whole but my only complain was that it took quite some time for them to realize the scale of the scam (in this particular case).

Hi, I (£750) Canon 50d) like you were one of these unfortunate folk caught up in this horrible mess - I thought Amazons actions at the very start were a little disjointed and confused, but they soon took control and paid up when the scale of the scam became apparent. I really can't blame Amazon too much in this case, how on earth could they vet sellers? Like Ebay its the feedback system that evens it all out in the end. The potential for this form of abuse can never be removed completely, but Amazons A-Z guarantee works extremely well on the whole. I'm pleased you got a full refund, as I, and I'm sure everyone else will. Stephen

Yeah, happy to have the money back. I agree that extra vigilance is necessary while shopping online!
