Discovery Channel - My Shocking Story: The Boy With Divine Powers
June 5th, 2006 by Niranjan Kunwar
Looks like Discovery Channel is going to put a stop to our curiosity on whether the Buddha Boy was eating or not during his meditation. They’ll be airing My Shocking Story: The Boy With Divine Powers on Thursday 29 June, 10pm. But this is only for viewers in UK at this moment. If there are any readers from UK interested in Buddha Boy please leave a comment after watching the story.
For the first time ever, cameras have been allowed beyond the 50 metre fence that guards Ram. Filming him 24/7, we will be able to see if he leaves the tree or is somehow getting food and water. Doctors will also view the footage and give their views on what is happening to his body and how he might be enduring what is deemed physically impossible.
Thanks to Wayne for the link.
Update: You can watch the full documentary in Dailymotion

it was a good documentry, 15 year old boy named Ram, meditated under a tree in Nepal for over 10 months. during this in 1 event when the cameras where not rolling and the crew were out of town, the people around ram said that his chest burst into flames and he called his brother 2 put a red robe around him. at the end he was still meditating but it had rumors that he dissapered he was no longer under the tree some say that he went deeper in2 the jungle to continue his meditation others say and believe he was kid-napped. and dats how the documentry ended.

I saw new footage of the buddha boy alive and well on bbc page.
July 3rd, 2006 at 12:11 pm
what happened to him, this is what i’m guessing everyone wants to know. how come the crew wasnt allowed to film at night. did they find the tiger? nothing outstanding was captured on cam, poepls say he was on fire. the whole thing seems fishy.

Grace here from the Philippines. i saw the documentary made by Discovery Channel. It was interesting to see the superb skill of the Ram in medidating. But so disappointed to learned that the boy disappeared and nobody knows where he could be right now.

I watched “the Boy with divine powers” on Discovery Channel last night from UBC Channel, Thailand. It was fascinating with all the comments from medical, religion, psychology, and scienctific point of view. As a buddhist myself, I would to believe that the boy really has divine powers. No normal human being can survive without food or water for 10 months unless he is an arahat.
But I was disappointed that they cannot tell us what happened to the boy after they shot the footage. How did he escape when there were lots of people guarding him day and night? What about his eldest broher who was in charge of his welfare and his family? How come nobody knew where he went or what happened to him and how he disappeared? I had a feeling the boy died of starvation and the brother or the committee tried to cover it up by saying he disappeared. I would very much like to know what really happened to him.

I saw it too, i was really amazed by wat he had done. How can a person sits for such a long period of time n still live? He’s a miracle. But i really wanna know where is he right now?My dad told me tat he might be eaten up by the wild animals in the forest.Cos his red robe is on the tree n his bones were not even there.Mayb a snake has got him.but wat’s the truth?
September 4th, 2006 at 11:25 pm

Surely, the program was wonderful. When is it being recast on Discovery Channel. Surely wants to see once again. Hope Discovery retelecasts once again. & how come the boy has disappeared? And what does his brother has to say? Why didn`t the nepali authorities search for the boy? A dog squad could have been put into service to track the boy? Anyway, its an Amazing program.

This is not happening first time in the history of meditation .the spirtually activated people of india or china , nepal can undergo for these kind of meditations after getting the gurudakshna from their spirtual masters.
RAM is not an ordinary boy.HE is a DIVINE soul.n im sure he will get the enlightment n he will become the great saint in the history of saints.
December 4th, 2006 at 3:59 am
Just saw the retelecast of Ram’s meditation on Discovery Channel and it was unbelievable, really, to find that a young man could have survived that long without the essential physiolgical needs being met. This probably goes to prove that the child’s divinity had surpassed his mortal state, thus he was able to attain such prolonged meditation without food and fluid intake.
I hope Discovery Channel posts another documentary on the whereabouts of the child or if there had been investigations done to find him.
December 4th, 2006 at 2:39 pm
i thot the whole documentary was absolutely fascinating!it wonders me how they(the one who meditates without food or water) can survive for such a long period of time.Ram looks cute too.
December 7th, 2006 at 2:41 pm
i really wonder where is he right now?? i just hope he is fine. i watch in discovery channel about he says to his mom the day before he start the meditation, he will be meditating in 6 years under the tree. and now i think maybe for 10 months later he founds that world have been so curious bout his meditating. and so he went to other place. now lets we all just hope that maybe later he finished in seeking the truth in this life just like Buddha Sidharta did n will tell us about the dharma he found. no doubt he is a saint. good luck ram.
December 9th, 2006 at 6:35 am
Ram is in a spiritual realm and will return no doubt. He is a devine being in a physical body which explains why he can survive without food and water. This human and his experience is a truly beautiful thing I feel honoured to witness in this lifetime. What a way to renew faith in our disturbed times. God Bless Ram.

damn i missed it. does anyone know the replay schedule?
March 3rd, 2007 at 8:22 pm
Notice that you never see the full speed up 96 hours of him meditating end to end and you never see it at night.
This is because the film crew were not allowed to film him at night and he had a curtain placed around him (there are many sources on the net covering this fact).
plenty of opportunity to eat and drink then. Amazing such a youg boy can spend so much time in deep meditation but i dont buy the no food and drink thing for a second.

April 18th, 2007 at 1:50 pm
I just saw this documentary a few days back. I missed the ending though. It was quiet frustrating!
I’m happy that there’s site’s like this where people can share their views/comments. Now I know how it ended. =P
However, like everyone here, I wonder what really happened to the boy? Will we ever find out?

Quoting from Wikipedia:
Ram Bahadur Bomjon (born May 9, 1989, sometimes Bomjan or Banjan), also known as Palden Dorje (his official Buddhist name), is a young Buddhist monk from Ratanapuri village, Bara district, Nepal who drew thousands of visitors and media attention for spending months in meditation, allegedly without food or water, although this claim is widely contested. Nicknamed the Buddha Boy, he began his meditation on May 16, 2005, disappeared from his hometown on March 11, 2006, and reappeared elsewhere in Nepal on December 26, 2006 only to leave again on March 8, 2007. On March 26, 2007, inspectors from the Area Police Post Nijgadh in Ratanpuri found Bomjon meditating inside a bunker-like square ditch of seven feet.

Hi Ajani,
Thanks for the link and detailed review.
September 26th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
I caught the show only last night. It’s quite intruiging actually.
As a skeptic, here are my thoughts:
1 - I don’t believe the crew recorded long enough during each visit.
2 - It’s very commendable that Ram was able to hold on beyond the limits of normal people, but this is something so many others have done before (holding their breaths, being buried alive etc).
3 - Assuming it was indeed a talent that could be one by only the best Yogi, he should have had breakdown limits (high as they were of course). What would have happened if the crew filmed on for 2 ~ 3 weeks?
4 - The robe change, was pretty convenient enough to occur when the media was not around. Burn marks on the tree? none.
5 - Ram’s (and his brother’s) dissapearance.
These are the signs of a scam gone bad. So he did have talent, but held on as best he could when the media was there. The second attempt at capturing him was all the more difficult for the con team. So when the wall start to tighten, *poof* they’re gone.
My opion is, this was a scam that was banking on a boy’s incredible skill. They should have just kept the cameras rolling longer. That would have doused any remaining flames of doubt.

I just saw it last night on discovery channel, I think his appareance in the world gives hope and happiness amongst many bad things that happen in the world. Someone actually blossom like a lotus in a muddy pond.
October 4th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
RAM is very amazing. SUPERB! Science can’t even explain how he survive without food and water. Where is he now? Am just curious… Well, LIFE is really unpredictable.
April 11th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
“He’s not the son of god hes a very naughty boy!” ha ha i crack myself up.
May 1st, 2008 at 9:40 am

May 20th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
I believe RAM is truly gifted with divine powers. he is doing what he believes in. I would love to see this boy and ask him millions of questions
They said he tends to meditate for 6 years…lets see what happens.
May 25th, 2008 at 11:20 am
There are so many things taht we can naver explain and much more that we will never understand. I hope that Ram wherever he is succeeds in his endeavor!
