Iromi,

wow...! how did you find to start with 10 hrs a day? It must have been difficult in the beginning? I'm also practicing the Insight Meditation for almost a year and have experienced a glimpse of bliss, nothingness or high... for few seconds to minutes time to time. I'm doing it 20 mins a day and learning by reading books and listening to audio lessons. I totally agree with you about the benefits that meditation brings.

BTW, about the Buddha Boy's reappearance. He disappeared on March 11 and briefly reappeared on March 19 (after 8 days). He told Bed Bahadur Lama (chairman of the committee), "I left because there is no peace here... Tell my parents not to worry," This is the BBC Story. Is there any other story reporting that he came back to his mother after 2 months?

...he is thought to have gone deeper into the jungle as all the media and commotion surrounding him were distracting him. It is said (BBC story)that he came back after two months of his "disappearance" and told his mom that he's ok and would be back in 6 years. I have to say that the Discovery program (that I saw recently) was far more factual and insightfully put-together than anything I found on the internet. I have only read of meditation powers like those of the "Buddha Boy," so it was extremely inspiring to watch this documentary- where he was recorded for more than 72 hrs without break by the Discovery channel. He did not stir from his deep meditation -much less eat or drink. He was also seen to control his body temperature- sweating profusely despite being in the freezing cold for weeks.

I have been meditating for 5 years now. In the first month- 10 hrs a day (required by the monastery). The following year- 2 hrs a day. The next 2 years- 1 hr a day; and the 2 years after that- 15 minutes to 1 hr a day. I'm upto a regular 1 hr a day again- woohoo! I think I have visited the "sphere of nothingness" but the longest was for about 20 minutes- very blissful. I'm afraid I sometimes only meditate to get "high." I've added a "loving-kindness" segment to my meditation session :) Some other benefits I have experienced are: more memory power, an increased level of concentration, and better physical health. Thank God for meditation :) I mainly practice Buddhist "Insight (Vipassana) meditation." Also, I once didnt eat for 2 weeks (when I was meditating 2 hrs a day) and I was ok! I drank water and oj though- gotta start somewhere!

Namaste. I can totally understand this, for a period of 4 years I meditated for 5 to 6 hours a day, now that is not a 24 hour day, but I can tell you, when you meditate alot, you TOTALLY LOSE INTEREST in this world, and in fact, if feels like you are drugged with the infusion of life force..... during this time for me, many master teachers visited me, I was taking darshan as I was meditating with LIGHT BEINGS..... I was taken to other worlds..... why would this be so strange for him not to have any interest in this world?

When you go deeper and deeper into meditation, you clearly know and see the illusion of this world. Meditation becomes a DRUG for you, it is the highest high, not even to mention getting to visit the Valley of the immortals without moving your human body is great. You begin to truly realize, where your thought is, you truly are.

Most can not sit in meditation for too long becuase the outer world of personalities override the innter worlds.... during my deep meditation times, I did not have the DISTRACTION of family, friends or things in this world calling me. This is wonderful to hear.

Namaste
